What is the Alternative to Buying a Home?

Author: Gloria Smith

Many people want to live on their own but just do not have enough funds to actually purchase a house. Buying a house is most definitely one of lifes major investments. Not everyone, especially those who have just started with their careers or are students, can afford it. But if you want to experience this kind of independent living but are not financially capable of doing so, do not despair, as there are other more economical and practical ways by which you can achieve this.

The next best thing to owning a piece of property is renting or leasing it. Renting or leasing is fast becoming the trend for young people. They find it convenient because they can choose a place conveniently near their place of work, close to friends, or by a favorite spot (the beach, for example). They find it economical because they can either find a space that is within their budget, or hopefully find a friend (or group of friends) who can share in the rent expenses.

Some find renting property practical because you can live in a place that you can call your own but do not have to worry about paying taxes or the high costs of maintenance. If youre lucky, you may even be able to swing a lease-to-own (where the rent money that you give every month serves as your monthly amortization. After a given number of years, you will no longer be considered a tenant but the owner of the property, and all papers will be transferred to you.) arrangement with the landlord.
