Beware of Hurricane Katrina Disaster Relief Scam's

Author: Mike Makler

Hurricane Katrina is the largest Natural Disaster to hit the United States in over 100 years. Unfortunately when a Disaster of such a magnitude hits so do the scam artists. Web Sites are popping up all over the Internet Claiming to raise money for Victims of Hurricane Katrina (Many of them are honest some are not). This Article will tell you how to find legitimate charities that are helping in the Hurricane Katrina Disaster Relief effort.

You should not let these scam artists keep you from helping. Everyone should give what they can afford and then dig a little deeper and give a little more. The key is to seek out the real charities that are helping real people in the Hurricane Katrina Disaster Area.

There are many ways you can help. Money is the obvious way, but not the only way. On TV today they showed some fire fighters collecting bottled water for the Disaster victims. Other groups are collecting food, cloths, Teddy bears and used eyed glasses.

You can check with your local newspapers and TV Stations to find local groups that are soliciting donations. In the St Louis Post Dispatch today they had a whole section on how to help. The Red cross and the science museum were doing a blood drive. Anyone who gives blood gets free admission to the science museum. Many local cities and churches are raising money or collecting supplies. The St Louis Rams Football team is raising money.

Many national charities like the Red Cross, United Way and Catholic charities are collecting money for the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. You can look in the phone book or on the Internet to find the local phone numbers for these group. When you do give to these charities make sure and verify that your money and support will be used in the Disaster relief effort and not placed in there general funds to give out as they see fit.
