Five Ways To Find Peace As A Busy Mom

Author: Angela Agranoff

Many moms absolutely love their role as mother and find it to be fun and rewarding. When it comes to being the family director, it can be a challenge with so many tasks and roles to fill. It can leave moms feeling overwhelmed and unorganized. Before you reach the point of frustration, or even despair, think about what is truly important to you and your household. Here are five ways to find peace as a busy mom.

1. Priorities for Family- Brainstorm about what your priorities are with your household and family, and organize them into categories such as household tasks, recreation, and activities for each family member. Then you can see specifically where your time is spent.

2. Prune Activities - If you find that you feel you are short on time or energy, see where you can cut back in your tasks and schedule. Check your organized list often to see if your priorities and activities have changed. Remember that you are not Supermom, and you are not expected to accomplish everything. Do your best, and dont be hard on yourself.

3. Pamper Your Mind Be kind to yourself. You are unique and special, and your role as mom in your family is filled in your own special way. Every mom is different, so dont compare you to other moms and families. Some techniques for running a household may work for one, and not another.

4. Purpose for Mom If you have ever had a passion that you have dreamt about, I encourage you to look into it. Finding your passion, as an individual, can give the feeling of accomplishment and purpose. Being a mom is a top priority, but having a special goal or interest for you alone, can be a wonderful energizer. Once again, brainstorm ideas and dreams you have had, or ones that you once pursued but stopped. Analyze which one(s) you could pursue with the time you have available. If you feel you have no time available, decide if this is important to you, and reconsider your current schedule of activities. You can start with small steps, and work your way up to your goal. Whether its to be an artist, volunteer, or have an exercise program, you can pursue your passions with an organized plan of action.

5. Preserve Your Energy Make yourself a high priority. Its hard to create time for us as busy moms, but it is very important. If you arent feeling well or have low energy, take some moments of down time. This may require a creative plan to obtain this block of time. Even fifteen minutes to recharge may be all you need, but may make a big difference. Find support, if possible, that can assist if you have small children. When you consistently make time to recharge, it will become a habit. Its not selfish; its self-care, and a gift to your family.
