Eat to Live, Don't Live to Eat

Author: Cynthia Kent

Cancer and other diseases are rampant and on the rise in today's world. It can be overwhelming to find out that you have a disease that could disable you for your life, or the worst case scenario- kill you. Many people feel that the only alternative to dealing with disease is to go the round of medications that at some point are worse then the disease. It doesn't have to be this way. My mother-in-law and husband are proof that serious diseases can be conquered by nutrition and vitamins alone. I know you are skeptical at that statement, I would be too if I didn't experience it firsthand in my life. You are probably wondering why, if this is the case don't more physicians advocate diet over medicine?

That is because , simply put, there is no money to be made advocating a healthy lifestyle to combat disease. Five years ago my mother-in-law found out she had breast cancer. She went to the doctor and the first thing they wanted to do was surgery. Her mother died after having breast cancer surgery so she said no, the risk was too great. She found out about a clinic in Mexico that treats diseases with food, yes healthy food and vitamins, no medications what-so-ever. She went on this eating regimen, even though her doctor thought she was wasting her time. Within three years time she was cancer free. Her doctor, and her radiologist were stunned. She conquered her breast cancer just by eating better. It has been five years since she was first diagnosed with breast cancer, and she is healthier than she has ever been.

Two years ago my husband, whom I thought was a healthy young man started having chest pains. One day while driving, he started having severe chest pains and checked himself into the hospital. They found out that he had a rare auto-immune disease called Sarcoidosis. He was put on Prednisone and the side effects were scary. This was not acceptable to me, so I took him to the same clinic his mother went to. He also was put on a diet and vitamin regimen. Since being on the diet, his cholesterol has dropped significantly, he hasn't had a single chest pain, he his strengthening and cleansing his immune system, and he has the energy of a toddler.

To eat to live, and fend off disease is in itself very simple. My husband eats only fresh fruits and vegetables, lots of olive oil, soy milk, only products that have sea salt, no regular salt. I make him bread with unbleached wheat flour. He can eat eggs, and fish, and chicken, healthy fruit sugars, brown rice and much more.

To eat to live he must avoid any foods that are prepackaged, canned, and frozen. Anything with preservatives is deadly to the immune system. Most diary products are avoided, but eggs, organic yogurt, and soy milk, and few cheeses are allowed.

This may seem overwhelming to digest, and at first it was to me, but I have become very creative in coming up with healthy and nutritious meals, that not only does my husband and myself eat, but also my two children. I have a wealth of information to share on how the powerful force of eating good can be. I have myriads of recipes to share with people who not only enjoy eating their food with flavor, but food that actually heals the body. No matter what we do with our lives, the single most important thing we should do is watch what we eat. Food is more powerful then we realize, it can heal or it can kill.
